October 24, 2026: Jocelyn Nungaray National Wildlife Refuge

Join Birds Houston Sanctuary Manager Wyatt Egelhoff and fellow Birds Houston members for a special exploration of Jocelyn Nungaray National Wildlife Refuge (formerly Anahuac NWR). We’ll begin with a leisurely walk through the butterfly garden and along the boardwalk before caravanning around the Shoveler Pond Auto-Tour Loop in search of shorebirds, waterfowl, and other wildlife. With Wyatt’s extensive knowledge of the region, this is a wonderful opportunity to experience the refuge alongside an expert, discover new birds and habitats, and ask questions along the way. Whether you’re a seasoned birder or simply enjoy spending time in nature, we hope you’ll join us for this memorable outing.

Field Trip Guidelines

  • Participation

Each trip will have a limited number of participants, normally 25, and participation will be on a first-come, first-served basis. There may be some field trips in which the number of participants will vary from the 25 stated above, depending on the logistics of the trip. A trip may be canceled if there are not enough participants.

  • Birds Houston field trips are a benefit of membership. Each participant must be a Birds Houston member or be a guest of a Birds Houston member. Not a Birds Houston member? Sign up now and then join us! To check on your membership status, please contact membership@birdshouston.org.
