Announcing the Next Chapter for our Organization

In September 1969, a group of 18 dedicated visionaries came together out of shared concern for the rapid loss of our natural habitats. They recognized a fundamental truth: lasting conservation succeeds only when an entire community gets involved. This belief has guided our organization’s efforts to protect birds and the places they need to thrive for 57 years.  

Since our founding in 1969, we have played a leading role in conserving some of the region's most important habitats while inspiring generations of residents to connect with nature. Protecting habitat requires engaging communities in conservation and nurturing the next generation of stewards that appreciate and advocate for the avian world. Building that movement requires an identity that makes it easier for everyone to understand our work, find their place in it, and join us in creating a future where birds and people thrive together.  

So today, we are thrilled to announce the start of our new chapter: Houston Audubon is now Birds Houston.

Our new identity is intended to clarify what we do, but for those who know us well, it will feel familiar. The new logo features the Yellow-throated Warbler, the long-time symbol for our organization dating back to one of our earliest projects fighting the Wallisville Dam in the 1970s.  

Our mission has always been to protect birds and their habitats, and our vision of connecting people with birds is how we inspire future champions of conservation.
